A heartfelt thank you for the New Year.

Captain Steve Kurian: Fisherman In Bristol Bay Alaska

A heartfelt thank you for the New Year.

As another year turns, I find myself reflecting on Bristol Bay—its tides, its weather, the long days, and the salmon that continue to return, year after year. Fishing sockeye here isn’t just a livelihood; it’s a responsibility, a privilege, and a promise to do things the right way.

This past year, like every season on the water, asked a lot of us. It asked for patience when the weather didn’t cooperate, resilience when the work was hard, and trust—in the fish, in the process, and in each other. It reminded me that this work is bigger than any one boat or season. It’s about stewardship, community, and honoring a resource that sustains so many lives.

To those who choose Pride of Bristol Bay: thank you. Thank you for valuing wild salmon, for supporting small-scale fishermen, and for believing that how our food is harvested truly matters. Every fish you bring to your table carries with it the care, effort, and respect that begins on the water and continues all the way to you.

As we step into the New Year, my commitment remains the same—to fish with integrity, to honor Bristol Bay, and to share the very best wild sockeye salmon possible. May the year ahead bring you nourishment, connection, and moments that feel as honest and enduring as a salmon run.

With deep gratitude and hope for the year ahead,

Captain Steve, F/V Ava Jane
